As regards the cost of making
good the bridges, I presume the Consulting Engineers will
be satisfied with the statements of particulars furnished
by this Government, but should they desire to appoint
any one to represent their interests there are several
local Firms of good reputation whose services would be
available. I have not taken any steps in reference to
Mr. Eves pending receipt of your telegraphic reply to this
Despatch, but I have ordered him to suspend work on the
condemned bridges and to institute the observations upon
the others as indicated in the report.
